Maynard Manyowa is an award-winning journalist with 17 years of experience working across all beats and roles in modern newsrooms. He has produced audio and video documentaries while creating journalistic content in print, text, video, audio and photos. This work has been featured in major UK national outlets such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Star, Express, Sun, and The Voice, as well as in 37 regional titles across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. He has helped produce two documentaries via Made in Manchester for the BBC World Service and BBC sounds. One about Eliot Mujaji, Zimbabwe's Paralympic champion, and another about the Nigeria Super Falcons and women's football in Africa.
Before relocating to the UK, Maynard’s work was published by some of the biggest media organizations in Africa and the US like News 24, Daily Maverick, SABC, CBS New York, and many others.
Maynard Manyowa holds a Master’s degree in Documentary Journalism from Nottingham Trent University. He is a Post Graduate Researcher and has completed his probationary and major review for a PhD with Bournemouth University.
Maynard Manyowa's research focuses on the intersection of digital technologies, journalism culture, and the future of ethical reporting. He is committed to bridging the gap between academic research and practical journalism. Maynard is working on a separate PhD about the evolution of newsrooms and news practices post-COVID-19.
As part of his PGR training, Maynard has delivered part-time teaching at Bournemouth University, and Nottingham Trent University as well as universities in Malawi.
As a budding cinematographer, he shares his creative projects under the alias Maynard Films Things on social media.
